The grant of £1,000 will enable the Albania Encouragement Project (AEP), the missions’ network in the country, to continue distributing food and clothes to those in greatest need in the district of Shkoder.
As BMS worker Graham McBain reported two weeks ago, torrential rain and rising river levels have flooded several villages in Shkoder, causing an estimated 66 million Euros of damage and leaving some 5,000 people homeless and taking refuge in military bases, tents or with relatives.
The public water system has been contaminated by sewage and the large number of dead cattle threatens to spread disease and infection.
AEP is working with local partners, including the national evangelical alliance and the churches in Shkoder, to help some of the victims of the floods. They have recently distributed around 600 food packets to those in greatest need and will also be distributing clothes.
A further distribution of food is planned and they will be forming work teams to help people repair and return to their homes.
